Finally, I finished this Christmas video! This is my first “fine” video with Sony Cyber-Shot 7.2 megapixel camera. I’ve usually been hesitant to create larger files with video. However, the graininess has been annoying me.

Two years ago I shot a video of Ricky A. Lenart’s Christmas light display. Well this year I decided to film a new one. I also took some indoor footage. Indeed, I crammed as much as I could fit on the two sticks that I have for my camera – photos and video. I’ve had the edited clips arranged for over a week now and have been trying to figure out the best way to approach the music.

Well I’ve been frustrated in my search for free copyright free music. I’ve even tried creating some music, but I wasn’t satisfied with the results. Instead I settled for three Apple iLife ’08 Jingles: “Buddy,” “Park Bench” and “First Snowfall.” Everything finally clicked into place Sunday night. And so here it is in all its glory!

Streetcar Ride

The streetcar is back on St. Charles Avenue as of November. Although the route only runs from Napoleon Avenue to Canal Street, residents and tourists are happy to have it return. The music for this clip was assembled with GarageBand '08's new "Magic Garage Band" feature. This clip is formatted at double the speed.

I filmed this one using the "Fine" setting. But when I uploaded to YouTube the video includes a thick black border. The tutorial claimed that the software would handle issues like this properly. Well, I guess not.

Green-Eyed Witch

My sister bought a new animated toy for Halloween. It's a green-eyed cackling witch. You just clap and it starts moving. The eyes blink and it cackles loudly. Operation Dance Revised

On Mardi Gras Day I had my camera with me. When Argus stopped for a while I noticed a crowd nearby cheering. I went to the center of the street to see what was causing the commotion. A couple of guys with a dance group were break dancing.

In all my excitement I treated my camera like a regular camera when the dance group, “Operation Dance”, arrived – that is I turned it sideways. That would have been fine if I was shooting a still image. Instead, I was shooting video.

Later on that day I figured out how to rotate the image. However when I uploaded to YouTube, the image was stretched out horizontally. The sound had disappeared when I imported my video from Quicktime to iMovie HD. Earlier this year I located a piece of freeware that keeps sound attached to a video - a Sony camera to Apple Mac issue.

Recently I purchased iLife ’08. The iMovie program that comes with packet helped me crop my video as well as keep rotate the video properly. The sound works fine too. For comparison see the earlier version Operation Dance.

Technical Issue Solved! New Embeds!

Today I finally solved a video technical problem. The QuickTime videos created by my Sony Cyber-Shot camera did not want to hold on to sound when I imported them into iMovie HD. Well, a piece of shareware helped me convert the files into MPEG-4's. I've spent much of the day finishing up these last two vids. Deciding on music for "Storm Brewing" took some time too.

Also, I've replaced the embed codes for this blog with YouTube embeds. Google Video is moving towards being a search engine for video sites. I'm continuing to still upload videos there as well, for those who only watch Google Video.

Operation Dance

Operation Dance is a dance group that performed in the Krewe of Argus Parade on Mardi Gras Day. Unfortunately I shot the video in the "portrait" direction instead of the "landscape" direction. So it got altered in the upload to Google and there is no sound. That aside, I still was impressed with the dancing.
